There are many different ways to get involved with Tails of the City depending on your skills, time available, and interests. Do you have the time to spend with us Saturdays at adoptions? Fantastic! Are you busy on the weekends but have a few hours during the week to spare? Wonderful. Here is a list of just some of the ways you can become involved with Tails. If you don’t see something listed but want to share your skill or idea, email us and let us know. We’re all ears!
Saturday Adoptions:
Every Saturday, weather permitting, we hold our dog adoptions at PETCO on 2nd and La Brea (next to the Ralphs) from 1-4pm. We need volunteers (18 years or older or with written parental consent) to fill the following shifts:
Set Up (11:30am-1:30pm): We hold our dog adoptions outside in the parking lot, so we need help putting up tents and setting up dog cages and pens. Cat adoptions are held inside the building and also need help setting up cages.
Walking and Talking (1pm-4pm): Once we are set up, we need volunteers to talk to our potential adopters about our animals and the adoption process. We also need dog walkers to take walks with potential adopters and so the dogs can take potty breaks!
Tear Down (3:30pm-5pm): What goes up must come down! All the tents, cages and supplies must be broken down and packed away for the next week.
Saturday Runyon Canyon Hiking Crew:
Every Saturday, weather permitting, our group of Hikers takes a few of our adoptable dogs up to Runyon Canyon in the morning to get exercise and show them off to other dog owners who might be interested in adopting. This is a great way to advertise for our adoptions later that day and a chance for the dogs to have some fun. Email tailsofthecityrescue@gmail.com for more information on how to join the Runyon Hikers.
Transportation:
All aboard! Tails is always in need of drivers to transport our dogs and cats. Our transportation needs vary but might include picking up a dog from a shelter, taking an animal to a vet visit, dropping off a dog to its new home, or picking up animals to bring to adoptions. If you have a flexible schedule and don’t mind a little dog hair in the back seat we’d love your help!
Shutter Bug:
Have an eye for composition? Tails is in need of photographers and videographers who have that magic touch needed when capturing a subject who wants to pay attention to anything but you! A picture can say a thousand words and we want all those words to be “Adopt ME!” Having a video link of one of our pit bulls playing or giving kisses will leave a much better impression than a still photo that doesn’t say much about the dog’s personality.
Fundraising:
Tails is funded 100% by donations from animal lovers like yourself. We are looking for volunteers to help with a major gallery fundraiser towards the end of the year. Please email us for information on how you can get involved.
Calling all computer literates!
Tails of the City could use your help updating our website and Petfinder pages. Let us know if you can spend a couple hours a week writing doggie descriptions and uploading video footage/pictures to our website.
